Abstract

The Chinese Section of the Faculty of Education has offered two types of tutorial programmes through electronic mail and LearningSpace. The study is on the awareness of university students on elements of effective communication. These include role of writers and readers, tenor, communication rules, aims, objectives, text genres, text structure, media, messages, situation, environments and gatekeepers. It is found that university students are more aware of the elements of effective communication when they use LearningSpace than e-mail. On the whole, they pay less attention to aims, gatekeepers, tenor, media and text structure in communicative writing.
